Internet Qualification Tournament
Want to play pair go in Beijing?!
Calling all amateur pair go players, for the AGA's knock-out internet tournament to select the AGA's one pair to play in the International Mind Sports Games in Beijing in October. We will select up to 16 pairs to compete in the tournament, based upon AGA ratings.
The eligibility requirements are: US citizenship, resident in the country for at least six of the past twelve months, and Full or Youth membership in the AGA. Note that one or two Canadian pairs will be included in the knock-out tournament, as the winning pair will receive free tickets for air travel to Beijing.
The format will be a four or three round knockout tournament, a 45 minute time limit per side, even games at 6.5 komi, and overtime of 3 periods of 30 seconds each. Participants will be on the honor system, pledging to play in a room separate from their partners, and not to communicate with their partners (except to consult about resignation). Either IGS or KGS pair go software will be acceptable.
Entry into this tournament means that (1) you assert that you meet the eligibility requirements listed above, and (2) you agree to this honor system, to the Pair Go Rulesand to the following schedule:
We have set a fixed time of 4 pm EDT each weekend, for the games. This can be changed by mutual agreement among the two pairs, but the games must be finished and the game records and results reported to Allan Abramson by 10 pm EDT on the originally scheduled day of the game. A late period of 15 minutes will be allowed: if a pair is not present and ready to play by 4:15 pm, it will forfeit its game.
The first two rounds will be on Saturday, 3 May, and on Sunday, 4 May. The third round will be the following weekend, on Sunday 11 May. The fourth round, if needed, will be on Sunday, 18 May. If this schedule causes anyone hardship, please let the tournament director know in your application, along with a proposal for alternate dates.
The deadline for applications to play in the tournament is midnight, Tuesday, 29 April. Interested pairs should send their names, ranks, email addresses, a pledge to follow the honor system, and AGA membership numbers to Allan Abramson, at allango@igc.org .
